The US has an opportunity to increase our energy independence through the country’s unconventional resources. Natural gas poses a realistic way for industry to lower greenhouse gas emissions, enable the growth of renewables while remaining cost competitive in a global market.
According to this study by Harvard Business School and Boston Consulting Group, hydraulic fracturing of hydrocarbons represents an “unprecedented opportunity for increasing U.S. competitiveness and growing well paying jobs that are accessible to the average citizen.” The authors, Michael E. Porter of HBS and David S. Gee and Gregory J. Pope of BCG, make it plain that the country must develop a common ground for industry, environmentalists and local and state governments to move forward.
